Ashwagandha and ginseng are two of the popular adaptogens. These are plants that help our bodies deal with stress and stay balanced. They are very different when it comes to how they work and what they are good for. This means that how you use them in your products will be different, too.

Today I want to talk about the details of ashwagandha and ginseng. The biggest difference between them is what they do. Ashwagandha is a calming adaptogen that helps with stress. Ginseng is an energizing adaptogen that helps with performance. For example, if you are making a supplement to help people relax at night ashwagandha is the choice. If you are making an energy drink or a pre-workout powder, ginseng is the way to go.

Ashwagandha Extract

The active compounds in ashwagandha are called withanolides. These are what give ashwagandha its stress-relieving properties. The well-researched withanolides are withaferin A and withanolide D. These have been shown to help lower cortisol levels and support relaxation.

Some common things to know about ashwagandha extract include:

* Standardization: 1.5%–5% withanolides

* Appearance: Light to medium powder

* Solubility: water-soluble and alcohol-soluble

* Stability: Stable under normal storage conditions with a shelf life of 24–36 months

There are some popular standardized forms of ashwagandha extract like KSM-66. This is a potency, full-spectrum ashwagandha extract that is in high demand. It has been clinically proven to be bioavailable. Has consistent withanolide levels.

Ginseng Extract

The active compounds in ginseng are called ginsenosides. These give ginseng its energizing and cognitive-supporting effects. The important ginsenosides are Rg1 and Rb1. It is worth noting that different types of ginseng have ginsenoside profiles. This affects how well they work and what they are good for.

Some common things to know about ginseng extract include:

* Standardization: 5%–20% ginsenosides

* Appearance: Light yellow to powder

* Solubility: Water- alcohol-soluble

* Stability: Stable for 24–36 months when stored properly

Unlike ashwagandha the value of ginseng is heavily influenced by where it comes from and how it is standardized. Korean ginseng is considered to be of quality and is in high demand.
